Two before one? What I noticed in the original numbering and I believe that continues to this day, why is the clone numbered before the original?

Weird isn't it? I always wondered that.

Reply gatemaster, November 20th, 2009, 4:58 pm

Because mewtwo is bigger

Oak is right.

Mew was just a myth while they were making Mewtwo. Which doesn't make sense to you, but makes sense to me. Unfortunately, you are not me, so it doesn't make sense. So I win. And since you aren't me, you DON'T win.

What I don't understand is this: How can they make a clone using the DNA of a creature they think is a myth? Wouldn't the existence of a DNA sample prove that the creature did in fact exist?

Reply DracheLehre, November 20th, 2009, 6:43 pm

It may be that at the time Mewtwo was created, Mew was largely thought to be extinct as Mewtwo was cloned from a fossil of a Mew...

However... that may actually place it somewhere near the original fossil pokemon and nowhere near Mewtwo...

Damn! The pokemon world makes little to no sense when it comes to the pokedex arrangement...

Reply Harrow, November 20th, 2009, 7:27 pm

The movie used a fresh Mew hair. D:c

Reply nuttyjigs, November 20th, 2009, 7:27 pm

The pokemon world doesn't make sense at all. XD Traveling around four regions on foot and never having a birthday......ten forever?!

Reply ?????? (Guest), November 20th, 2009, 7:42 pm

Because when the game Debuted, Mewtwo was put in first instead of mew, which was used as the first ever event pokemon....

That, and to piss off players.

Typo in the pokedex?
Dyslexic indexer(s)?

These answers are quite simple and plausible.

Reply Ved of Flames (Guest), November 20th, 2009, 9:54 pm

I believe in the movie Mewtwo was created from what the scientists believed was a Mew fossil.

Reply Vye Brante, November 21st, 2009, 12:45 am

Because Mewtwo is awesome! That's why.

Hope that cleared that up for you! Heh heh.

Being the nerd I am... I did some research on this and it appears that Nintendo didn't know Mew was even in the coding for Red(J) and Green(J) by Satoshi Tajiri.

More nerd trivia: Mew was the first Pokemon trademark three and a half years before the actual series' name was trademarked!

I remember in an old pok'e mon manga, the guy said there were 150 pok'emon not incloding Mew before team roket made Mewtwo and I was all like "You fail!"

This would be why I don't think too hard while playing video games.

Logic: Mew was considered a myth but Mewtwo was being created at that same point when it was. Mewtwo is an artificial Pokemon but even though we know it's a clone, when it was labeled before Mew was discovered it could have just been speculated it was a Pokemon created to be Mew since Mew could never be found. However once it was revealed it was a clone, it was probably too late to fix the number. Though to be fair to you, Mew having the genes of all Pokemon thus the insinuated ancestor, should be Pokemon #000

Reply Namm_killazilla, November 23rd, 2009, 2:01 pm

Gee, you guys have a lot of evidence.

The order is not the order they were discovered in. If that were true, then why would all the evolutions fall into place exactly the way they are? HUH?!

I mean, it's not like the discovered Machop, Machoke, and Machamp in that exact order with no other discoveries in between...

In Cinnabar Mansion, the diary pages say that Mew acutally GAVE BIRTH to Mewtwo.

@Tomcat_X : Wait, wait, wait, MEW should be pokemon #000? No, that's Missingno. Missingno's #000. Or is it #0000? Huh. Whatever.

Confuzeled OK I am so confused with all the comments and theories or whatever you spell it I dont know what to believe i mean really!!! But in my comment or well theorie i think they just made mewto and maybe thought its better for mew to be a myth but they just changed there mind or something

Reply KP Shadow, July 7th, 2010, 12:21 am

I know why.
Because he's voiced by DAN GREEN!!

Reply Jiremi (Guest), November 19th, 2010, 7:23 pm

Mewtwo comes first because Mewtwo said so. And if you disagree he WILL find you.

Reply HeartlessMasterZach, February 24th, 2011, 2:07 pm

I always thought that mewtwo said " i will be before mew cause i can kill anybody who says otherwise and clone them so that way nobody can prove anything"

Reply Rawr (Guest), March 27th, 2011, 11:34 pm

It's easier to complete the pokedex when it's like that, that's why.
